So… what is nail fungus infection?

Nail fungus, or onychomycosis, is a condition that occurs when a microscopic fungus enters either a fingernail or toenail. This usually occurs through a small cut or break in the nail. Fungal infections occur in toenails more often than in fingernails.

The fungus (a dermatophyte) grows within the nail bed making it difficult to reach and therefore difficult to kill. To make matters worse, the protected area underneath a nail provides the perfect growing condition for dermatophytes.

Besides giving the nail an unsightly look, nail fungus can cause discomfort or even be painful. When you visit a nail salon, observe the hygiene protocols carried out by the nail technician. The tools that are used must be sterilized and sanitized, and the pedicure basin that you soak your feet in must also be sanitized after each use.

It is very important to go to a nail salon with experienced nail technicians.
